Washington

The first Parent-Child Home Program site in Washington state opened in 2001 in Yakima. It is sponsored by the Cottonwood Elementary School and has been featured on local television and in the Yakima newspaper.

The first Seattle site opened in 2004 and is sponsored by the Atlantic Street/Rainier Beach Center in conjunction with the New School Foundation. This site has received funds from The Washington Women's Foundation and the City of Seattle and is now funded by the Business Partnership for Early Learning.

Three more Seattle sites opened in 2005. Two sites sponsored by Neighborhood House are funded by the Business Partnership for Early Learning. The site sponsored by Southwest Youth and Family Services is funded by the City of Seattle's Families and Education Levy.

The Business Partnership for Early Learning (BPEL) is a coalition of King County business leaders working to demonstrate that they can reduce or eliminate the school- preparedness gap for children most likely to be left behind in school -- creating school readiness, academic achievement, and graduation rates at parity with non-disadvantaged children. BPEL is conducting a five-year demonstration of a research-proven program new to Seattle. If the model proves successful, BPEL hopes to use its findings to guide wise public investments in early learning strategies.

The Coupeville site began serving families in 2005 and is sponsored by the Coupleville School District.
