Parent-Child Home Program Alumni

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM OUR GRADUATES AND PARENT PARTICIPANTS

The Parent-Child Home Program has an active alumni program open to all graduates of the Program. If you are a Parent-Child Home Program alumnus, please keep us up-to-date on what you're up to by completing and submitting the Alumni Questionnaire below. We'd love to hear from you.

Parent-Child Home Program alumni annually receive four issues of The Parent-Child Home Program Newsletter. In addition, many former Parent-Child Home Program participants continue their involvement in the Program by speaking at fundraising events, attending our annual Youth I.N.C. gala, donating to the National Center or the replication site that they graduated from, or becoming board members, among other things.

Also, please be sure to visit The Parent-Child Home Program website regularly as a way to keep in touch, share your experiences as a graduate, and stay informed on Program developments.

Dear Alumni:

We are delighted to learn that you participated in The Parent-Child Home Program (also known as the Mother Child Home Program or Verbal Interaction Project) as a young child and would love to hear your story.

In case you have not kept up with us, The Parent-Child Home Program now serves families in more than 150 communities across the country. The model has not changed since you were a child - home visitors still visit families twice a week with books and educational toys, sharing the joy of learning and helping parents prepare their children to enter school ready to be successful students. We now have four decades of extensive research demonstrating that the Program helps bridge the preparation gap by preparing children to enter school ready to learn.

Because you are an alumnus of the Program, we are interested in knowing what you are doing now and if you and your family have any memories of the Program. We have heard from other alumni over the years who recall the impact the Program had on their families and their school experiences. Julian Gomez, a corporate lawyer who recently joined our national Board of Directors, graduated from the Program in 1975 and speaks often of its impact on him and his mother. He notes that The Parent-Child Home Program was the reason he was the only Hispanic kid in my class who knew London Bridge and how he sang it loudly and felt like he belonged in that class. He also remembers his mother, who was empowered by the Program to be his academic advocate, calling school to demand that they give him more homework and harder classes. Most importantly, he remembers being excited about starting school and feeling comfortable and confident in the classroom.

Today, The Parent-Child Home Program continues to serve families at risk for educational challenges families facing obstacles such as poverty, language barriers, limited literacy, and social isolation. Despite obstacles, these children graduate from the Program with the skills they need to successfully navigate the classroom and parents who are involved in their educations.

We would love to hear your story. Perhaps you have memories of your home visitor or a particular book or toy the Program introduced to you. Perhaps your parents have memories about their participation. Your story will help us get a better sense of the long-term effects of the Program and help us serve more families, so that every child can have the opportunity to enter school ready to succeed.

Please take a few moments to fill out the questionnaire on this page and return it to us at your earliest convenience. Thank you in advance for sharing your story and for helping The Parent-Child Home Program.

Very truly yours,
Sarah Walzer
Executive Director
